Marvy Moms Family Photo Exchange

Marvy Moms Family Photo Exchange

It seems like everyone has a digital camera these days, even if it’s also a phone. I have a nice point and shoot, plus one on my Droid. However, since I’m always the one taking pictures, I have very few pictures of me with my little guy unless I remember to take them myself. Even more rare are photos of the three of us together. Sure, we could set up a tripod, but I don’t want to be the one with a sweaty upper lip in all of the pictures from running back and forth from the camera to the perfect place in a picture.

We have had professional pictures done before, but I have such trouble choosing which photos I want to keep. Some offer all of the photos on a disc, but they are expensive. Do you know how many diapers you can buy with $300? (I make all my money decisions based on diaper value!)

What if a bunch of families could get together to take pictures for each other? Sure, they might not be perfectly professional or edited to remove graying hair, but they are better than no pictures at all.

I’m working on setting up a Marvy Moms Family Photo Exchange event in the Rochester, NY area. I’m putting it out to my Facebook mom groups to get volunteers to offer time, talent and items to help out. So far we’ve had several people offer to take pictures, including at least one professional photographer. We’ve also got people volunteering to do hair and makeup so that everyone can look their best.

I’m also looking for people to bring backdrops and props and maybe some fun distractions for the kids while they wait. The idea here is to build community and to help each other out.

The toughest part so far is finding a place to host it. With the weather getting colder each day, the options are dwindling. I’d like to do this before the holidays so that people have a nice photo for cards, crafts, and gifts. If all goes well, I’d like to do another Marvy Moms Family Photo Exchange in the Spring or Summer next year. Maybe we’ll make it an annual event.

To make it even more fun, I’d like to do a photo contest on the Marvy Moms Facebook page with some of the photos. If you can’t come to Rochester, you can still enter your photo. Maybe someone would like to offer prizes.

I’ll be updating you on how this all goes. I challenge you to arrange  a Family Photo Exchange in your area. Tell me how it goes so we can learn from each other!
